American midfielder Maurice Edu has finally completed his transfer from Toronto FC to Scottish Premier league runners-up Rangers after securing his UK work permit.
After recently securing his UK work permit, Maurice Edu has officially joined Scottish outfit Rangers from Toronto FC in a transfer worth roughly $5 million.
When Edu spoke of his transfer to the Scottish Premier League runners-up, the defensive midfielder was excited about the move, but will leave with a heavy heart.
"I'm excited about this new chapter in my career,” said Edu about transferring to Rangers. “I will miss Toronto, and the team's amazing supporters and fans. Toronto FC will always have special meaning for me because it's the club that gave me my professional start.”
Edu was drafted first overall in the 2007 MLS Superdraft by Toronto, and was the first pick in their inaugural draft class. Previously Edu attended Maryland University, but gave up his senior season to turn professional.
He joins a Rangers side that came close to an amazing continental quadruple, barely missing out on the SPL title and finishing UEFA Cup runners-up to Zenit St. Petersburg earlier this year.
Fellow American midfielder DeMarcus Beasley will welcome Edu to a Rangers squad where he should challenge for a spot in the starting XI.
