Cesc Fabregas thinks Arsenal and Xabi Alonso would be a 'perfect' fit
Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has urged Arsene Wenger to make Xabi Alonso the solution to the club's midfield problems before the summer transfer window closes.
After losing to Fulham at the weekend Arsenal's shortcomings in the centre of the pitch were exposed following the departure of Mathieu Flamini and Alexander Hleb to AC Milan and Barcelona respectively.
With Fabregas himself only just recovered from an injury that has kept him out of Arsenal's first two games of the Premier League season, the Spaniard believes that compatriot Alonso has that "something special" to bring trophies to the Emirates.
"What can I say? He is my friend and apart from that he is a great professional, a great passer of the ball, he works hard defensively, he's scoring goals now, he's experienced and he is only 26," said Fabregas.
Having lifted the European Championship with Spain earlier in the summer along with Alonso, Fabregas is desperate to help Arsenal end a barren run of three years without silverware and is fully settled in North London.
"This club has something special that no others have. We have to take care of it. I want to win things for the club. I want to get experience here. I want to play for Arsenal," he said.
"When you see football all around the world, you see very few teams who play the way that we play.
"I just enjoy it. I feel it is my home now."
Arsenal, beaten finalists in 2006, will expect to reach the Champions League group phase on Wednesday when they aim to complete a win over Dutch side Twente Enschede in their final qualifying round return leg having won the first leg 2-0.
